In "Gender Trouble," Roz Mortimer has constructed an experimental documentary that raises many complex emotions and issues that go beyond the physiological conditions of intersex (gender, chromosomes, sex). This film raises questions about gender and identity; medical and social labelling of people; power relationships between patients and doctors (and parents and children); and the potential impact of narrative, emotion and image in medical science.

Artiste et réalisatrice, Roz Mortimer vit et travaille à Londres. Depuis 1995, elle a réalisé plusieurs courts métrages et a créé en 2001 la société de production Wonderdog. Elle travaille actuellement pour Channel 4.

Roz Mortimer is an artist and filmmaker who lives and works in London. Since 1995 she has been producing both short and long-form experimental films which have been widely screened around the world at film festivals, galleries, cinemas and on television. She has lectured at universities in the UK and USA. Her work is focused on expanded and experimental forms of documentary across a range of media: from film and video to photography, sound, installation and performance.

Ileana Pietrobruno est une réalisatrice polyvalente : écriture, production, direction, conception et édition de ses propres films. Ces récits surréalistes emploient un langage symbolique pour créer des contes audacieux et peu communs. Elle a réalisé plusieurs courts métrages (The Sisters of Gion, The Chilliwack Princess, Zoo, et Narcissus) ainsi qu'un premier film intitulé Cat Swallows Parakeet and Speaks!. Sa vision originale et provocante a été récompensée par plusieurs prix dans divers festivals internationaux. Ce deuxième long métrage, Girl King, a également été sélectionné dans de nombreux festivals.

Lors du dernier festival nous avions sélectionné le film de Nikola Marin, What's News: Take Back the Night. La réalisatrice, pour pouvoir se joindre a nous, n'a pas hésité a faire du porte a porte dans son voisinage afin de récolter les fonds pour payer son voyage. Dans Going (and Coming ) to Paris, elle nous montre dans un premier temps son parcours du combattant, puis elle nous donne ses impressions sur Paris et le festival.

"Going (and Coming) to Paris" looks at the obstacles that Canadian artists face in presenting Canadian art on Indie' budgets. The piece approaches social dynamics of local Canadians by bringing issues of race, sex, class and economics to their doorstep. As well, attitudes of what represents work are unveiled, attitudes that reflect the barriers towards viewing artists as professionals in their own right. These humorous skits illustrate taboos that arise such as unsolicited requests for money from strangers. The film also documents grassroots public education that occurs with every door knock and conversation in regards to a feminist filmmaker raising funds to attend a lesbian film festival in Paris.

Kate Anderson a étudié l'animation au College of Art d'Edinburgh. Triple Star, son film de fin d'études, est une animation traditionnelle en 2D. Kate poursuit ses études à Londres au Royal College of Art d'où elle sort diplômée en 2002. Elle réalise alors deux films : Hard to Know et All You Can Eat.

Kate Anderson graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2002 with an MA in Animation and began her professional career in animation with the production company HSI London, where she worked on a diverse array of animated shorts, music videos and commercials. Kate's short films have screened at the BFI London and in festivals worldwide.

Elle a écrit et réalisé plusieurs courts métrages, dont certains ont reçu de nombreux prix nationaux et internationaux comme Bloody Well Done ou Les héroines de l'amour (co-auteure Lily Besilly), primé du 'Teddy' à la Berlinale 1997, tous deux diffusés à Cineffable.

Born in Paris, Nathalie Percillier lives in Berlin where she studied at Berlin Art School (UdK) and Filmschool (dffb). She has made many short films: "Bloody Well Done," "Heroines of Love" which won the Teddy Award at the Berlinale 1997, as well as "Sticky Dough" which received numerous national and international awards.

Drôle, brillant, émouvant, ce dernier volet de la trilogie expérimentale sur l'histoire des lesbiennes (Nitrate Kisses 1992, Tender Fictions 1995) est truffé d'archives, visuelles et sonores, malicieusement détournées et entrelardées de sketches parodiques pour servir une réappropriation irrévérencieuse par les lesbiennes de leur image.

                

Funny, touching, brilliant, this last part of Hammer's 'missing history trilogy', is based on archival footage, mischievously cut with parodies, and transformed into an irreverent lesbian reappropriation of our own image. From popular films to newsreels, sex ed pics, stag reels, medical and educational films, old nudies and more, "History Lessons" reclaims and rewrites lesbian history. The sound track is, as usual, outstanding.

"How Mermaids Breed," a film exploring the fertility of mermaids. Although they are traditional symbols of fertility and a sexuality so powerful as to be a danger to shipping, details of their reproductive processes have been scarce. The film reveals the secret cycle of laying fertilising and hatching.

Joan Ashworth is a director and designer of animated films. She has worked in the industry for 20 years, specialising in puppet animation during that time and more recently in digital 3d. Currently, she is Head of the Animation Department at London's Royal College of Art.
