Emiko commence la réalisation en 1968 quand il n’y avait encore que peu de femmes derrière les caméras et encore moins de femmes américaines d’origine asiatique. Elle travaille en freelance pour de nombreuses productions et commence en parallèle à produire ses propres films. Elle remporte le prix du meilleur documentaire à Sundance pour son film « rabbit in the moon » racontant l’emprisonnement de sa famille en camp d’internement américain pendant la seconde guerre mondiale.
Wendy travaille depuis longtemps dans la production et la réalisation pour Disney, CBS ou Showtime. Elle a reçu plusieurs Emmy ainsi que des récompenses aux New York Film Festival et Houston Film Festival. Elle travaille comme productrice aux côté d’Emiko Omori.
Emiko began her career as a filmmaker and cinematographer in 1968, when there were few camerawomen and fewer still Asian American camerawomen. She has freelanced as a cinematographer on many award-winning films, and travelled extensively with her work in addition to producing her own films. She wrote and directed the highly acclaimed drama, Hot Summer Winds. Her documentary/memoir, Rabbit in the Moon, about her family’s confinement in a World War II American internment camp, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival where it was awarded the Best Documentary Cinematography award. It then went on to win a National Emmy for Outstanding Historical Program and numerous other awards. She has produced and directed a number of series and documentary films, and has taught in California universities and Colleges.
Wendy has produced and directed in almost every facet of the entertainment media industry--American Playhouse, Disney, Showtime, PBS, CBS, and VH-1; has made educational and documentary films for Lucas Film Learning, Harcourt Brace, Sundance Institute, Nature Company, and Apple Computer; and has designed and produced a number of CD-ROMS and Web Sites. She has been honored with several Emmy and ACE nominations, a “1000 Points of Light” award, as well as awards from the New York Film Festival, Houston Film Festival, Hawaii Film Festival, and several Cine Golden Eagle Awards. In addition to her own productions, she served as producer on Emiko Omori’s Hot Summer Winds. She created the video department at the College of Marin, and has guest lectured at several universities and colleges.
