Traductrice et réalisatrice, Ioana Wieder naît à Bucarest avant de migrer en Palestine, au Liban, puis en France où elle est naturalisée en 1957. Par la suite, elle déménage aux États-Unis, s'engage au sein du mouvement « Free Speech » et découvre « The feminine Mystique » de Betty Friedman. De retour en France en 1968, Ioana Wieder enseigne et fait des traductions, notamment le « Vaginal Politics » d'Ellen Frankfort. Elle rejoint les mouvements féministes, participe aux A.G. du M.L.F., et se passionne pour la vidéo avec son amie Delphine Seyrig. En 1975, les deux femmes rencontrent Carole Roussopoulos avec laquelle elles forment le collectif des Insoumuses et réalisent plusieurs documentaires, dont le très humoristique « Maso et Miso vont en bateau » en 1976. Parallèlement, elle réalise ses propres films.
Translator and film director, Ioana Wieder was born in Bucharest before migrating to Palestine, Lebanon, then to France where she was naturalized in 1957. Subsequently, she moved to the United States, committed to the movement "Free Speech" and discovers "The Feminine Mystique" by Betty Friedman. Back in France in 1968, Ioana Wieder taught and made translations, including Ellen Frankfort's "Vaginal Politics." She joins the feminist movements, participates in the MLF (Movement for the Liberation of Women in France), and is passionate about video with her friend Delphine Seyrig. In 1975, the two women met Carole Roussopoulos with whom they formed the collective of the Insoumuses and made several documentaries, including the humorous "Maso et Miso vont en bateau" in 1976. At the same time, she made her own films.
