The Austrian artist Maria Lassnig tells us the story of her life in a ballad with fourteen verses, beginning with her birth and ending with her life as it is today.

Maria Lassnig a été diplômée en arts graphiques à l'Université de Vienne en 1943. Elle a vécu plusieurs années à Paris et à New York. Peintre et cinéaste, elle a réalisé entre autres films, Iris (1971), Selfportrait (1971) et Art Education (1976). Son œuvre a été récompensée par de nombreux prix internationaux.

Maria Lassnig was an Austrian artist known for her painted self-portraits and her theory of "body awareness". She trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna during World War II and then spent several years in Paris in the 1950s and 60s, where she was exposed to Art Informel and Surrealism. From 1968 to 1980, she lived in New York, where she did pioneering work in film. Lassnig lived and taught in Vienna from 1980 until her death.

Claudia Zoller a réalisé un film d'animation dedicated deer. Elle fait actuellement des études d'animation à l'Université du Film et de la Télévision de Postdam-Babelsberg (Allemagne).

Born in 1966, Claudia Zoller studied animation at the "Konrad Wolf" Academy of Film & Television (HFF/B) from 1991. She creates animation films in various techniques. She is comics-artist, graphic designer and scriptwriter.

« Avez-vous un ennemi ? Que lui feriez-vous si vous pouviez agir en toute impunité ? » La réalisatrice-photographe a posé ces questions à des passantes, interrogées au hasard dans les rues de Cologne, et a mis à leur disposition une gamme d'armes-jouets destinés à illustrer leur réponse. Les 14 portraits réalisés sur ce thème ont été exposés en septembre 1992, dans une rue commerçante de Cologne. Ce film montre les réactions des passants : un documentaire surprenant sur un thème rarement abordé, et une grande leçon sur les aspects explosifs de la sincérité.

"Do you have an enemy? And if so, what would you do with him if you could do it without getting punished?" This was the question Bettina Flitner asked random passers-by in the streets of Cologne and Berlin. The women had an arsenal of toy weapons they could chose from, or not, to illustrate their answers. This way 12 photo portraits were made and 12 surprising confessions. Together with the camera woman Christel Fomm, Bettina Flitner documented the spontaneous and passionate controversial reactions of the people to the photographs. The film, which received numerous awards, was shown at multiple festivals, among others at the Berlin film festival Berlinale.

Bettina Flitner is a photographer and filmmaker, her experiences with film have influenced her photographical works. As a photographer Bettina Flitner is an autodidact. Since 1990 she focuses mainly on photography, since 1992 she is an associated member of the photo agency laif.

Odette du Puigaudeau, exploratrice, ethnologue, archéologue en Mauritanie dans les années 30 et journaliste a mené une vie étonnante en traversant tout le siècle. Née en 1894, et disparue en 1991 elle a partagé cinquante ans de sa vie avec son amie Marion. Ses récits de voyage, ses nombreux articles révèlent une personnalité hors du commun. Ce documentaire vidéo, produit par les Imagiciennes, groupe de vidéastes d'Amiens, la fait revivre avec beaucoup de fascination.

Odette du Puigaudeau, explorer, ethnologist, archaeologist in Mauritania in the 1930s and journalist led an amazing life throughout the century. Born in 1894, and disappeared in 1991 she shared fifty years of her life with her friend Marion. Her travel stories, her numerous articles reveal an unusual personality. This video documentary, produced by the Imagiciennes, a group of videographers from Amiens, brings her back to life with great fascination.

Dans les années 70, elle s'investit dans l'action du MLAC d'Amiens pour le droit à la contraception et à l'avortement. Féministe lesbienne, elle fonde en 1990 l'association amiénoise lesbienne Les Immédianes, avec quelques-unes de ses amies. Elles réfléchissent alors à la défense des droits lesbiens.

Born in 1936, Raymonde Gérard was professor of French and then professor of expression techniques in Amiens. In the 1970s, she invested herself in the action of the MLAC for the right to contraception and abortion. As a lesbian feminist, she founded the lesbian association "Les Immédianes" in 1990, with some of her friends. They then reflect on the defense of lesbian rights.

Shanti est issue d'un mariage mixte. Shanti doit faire face au saccage du magasin de son père par un groupe fasciste. Au moment crucial, elle fait appel à l'image de sa mère qui lui permettra de résister au danger.

Using magic realism, Memsahib Rita looks at the physical and emotional violence of racism. Shanti is haunted by both the racist taunts of nationalist white youths and the memory of her white mother.
"Memsahib Rita" is a short film that is a part of the series directed by four women filmmakers of different races, including Ngozi Onwurah acclaimed for "The Body Beautiful." This series is entitled "Siren Spirits," and co-produced by BBC and the British Film Institute. Pratibha Parmar directed the second vignette "Memsahib Rita," to chronicle the internal culture class suffered by a London girl with a British mother and a Sri Lankan father.

Réalisatrice britannique d'origine indienne, Pratibha Parmar est née à Nairobi (Kenya). Dès l'adolescence, elle s'engage dans des associations d'aides aux femmes originaires de l'Asie. Pratibha Parmar a réalisé et produit des clips musicaux, des fictions et de nombreux documentaires qui traitent des questions de race, de sexualité et d'orientation sexuelle. Memsahib Rita est sa première œuvre de fiction.

Pratibha Parmar was born in Nairobi, Kenya. She is an Indo-British director. Before she began to make films, she was a youth and community worker working in the Asian community with young women. Pratibha Parmar has directed and produced music videos, fiction films and a quite a number of documentaries concentrated on issues related to race, sexuality and gender.

Le corps idéal existe-t-il ? Peut-être mais chez les autres. C'est ce que révèlent treize femmes de cultures et d'origines diverses, qui témoignent de leur ambivalence vis-à-vis du regard qu'elles portent sur leur corps. En parallèle, des images d'archives viennent rappeler que dans les années 30 la perfection du corps féminin était tout autre.

"Mirror Mirror" provocatively explores the relationship between a woman’s body image and the quest for an idealized female form. Blending humor and candor, the film incisively illuminates the vagaries in the concept of an “ideal” body type. A tension exists between the visual statement created by masks and mannequins and the rich diversity of the thirteen women appearing in the film. These women, of varying age, size, and ethnicity, frankly reveal the ambivalence with which they regard their own bodies. Their comments on the size and shape of specific body parts are underscored by footage from the thirties depicting perfect body part contests for women.
