Emily et Gitta raconte l'histoire de deux femmes amoureuses. Emily est la fille de rescapés de l'Holocauste. Gitta a grandi en Allemagne, se croyant innocente, non responsable des actes commis par ses parents pendant la guerre. Le film nous montre leur rencontre, émouvante et sensuelle. Dès le début toutefois, leur relation menace de se défaire à cause de l'histoire et des souvenirs qu'elles partagent ou ne partagent pas.


The story of Emily, the child of Holocaust survivors, and Gitta, who grew up in Germany thinking herself as innocent and not responsible for her parents' generation's actions during the war. They meet and begin a dance of emotional and erotic intimacy. Almost as soon as it begins, however, their relationship threatens to be torn apart by the histories and memories they do and do not share.

Tami Gold is a visual artist, filmmaker, and educator who began working in media in the early 1970's in the Newsreel Film Collective of the anti-Vietnam War movement. In addition to painting, sculpture and writing, she is an award-winning documentary filmmaker.

Voici l'histoire d'une famille déchirée par l'extrémisme politique et religieux. Ce documentaire très personnel nous fait suivre avec beaucoup d'émotion le cheminement de la réalisatrice pour retrouver le père d'extrême droite, militant pour les "valeurs familiales", qui l'a rejetée quinze ans plus tôt à cause de son lesbianisme. Ce faisant, elle s'interroge, ainsi que son entourage, sur ce que signifie la famille et met en évidence l'hypocrisie totale des défenseurs des "valeurs familiales" d'extrême droite.

                                 

"Family Values: An American Tragedy" tells the story of a family torn apart by political religious extremism. Pam Walton and her father, a leading behind-the-scenes figure in the radical religious right, have had nothing to do with each other for over 15 years because of what her father calls her "sinful lesbian lifestyle." Walton sets out to expose the hypocrisy that exists among the right wing's "family values" activists, but along the way there is an unexpected turn. "Family Values" asks us to remember that "family" is a deeply personal experience.

Pam Walton, Producer/Director, has two masters from Stanford University, one in Education and the other in Communication (Film and Video Production). Walton is an award-winning independent video producer. From 1989 to 1999 Walton was a lecturer in the Department of Communication (Film and Video Production) at Stanford University.

Le film retrace l'histoire d'une famille confrontée aux changements importants que vit l'Inde actuellement à travers le lien qui unit deux belles-sœurs et l'attirance qui les rapproche. C'est un film sur le désir et la manifestation du désir, un film qui va au fond des contradictions qui opposent la tradition à la modernité, l'Orient à l'Occident, le spirituel au matériel.


The film, set in a contemporary household in India, is about desire and the manifestation of desire. It explores the contradictions and chaos that exist between the old and the new, between East and West, and between the spiritual and the material.

Deepa Mehta a terminé ses études de philosophie à New Delhi et vit actuellement au Canada. Elle a commencé sa carrière cinématographique en écrivant des scénarios de films pour enfants. Fire est son troisième long métrage.

Deepa Mehta was born in India and received a degree in philosophy from the University of New Delhi. She began her cinematic career writing scripts for children's films. "Fire" is her third feature film after "Sam and Me" (1990) and "Camilla" (1993).

Après avoir obtenu une licence en arts à l'Université de Nouvelle-Galles du Sud en 1981, avec spécialisation en théâtre et sciences politiques, elle travaille à divers postes sur plusieurs longs métrages australiens. En 1984, elle entre à l'Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS), dont elle sort diplômée d'une licence en scénarisation et en réalisation en 1987. Durant sa dernière année d'études, Monica réalise deux courts métrages : Velo Nero et Rabbit on the Moon, puis plusieurs autres par la suite dont Just Desserts présenté lors de la 6e édition du festival.

Monica Pellizzari was born in Sydney in 1960 to Northern italian migrants. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of New South Wales in 1981, majoring in Drama and Political Science, Monica worked on several Australian feature films in various capacities. In 1984 she started at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS), graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Writing and Directing in 1987. In her final year at the school, Monica made two short dramas - "Velo Nero" and "Rabbit on the Moon". Since graduating, she has worked as a writer/director in radio, theatre and film.

Le film plonge dans l'univers tourmenté de deux jeunes femmes qui sont en fuite face à de violents dealers. Elles se réfugient pour la nuit dans des toilettes désaffectées. La tension de ce huis clos les amène à parler de leur amitié. Des souvenirs atroces refont surface, l'homophobie cachée s'exprime, la dépendance à la drogue et un univers urbain dangereux s'entremêlent dans cette relation faite de violence, de rage et de grande solidarité.

                                 

Two young women, struggling to survive on the city streets, take shelter overnight in a disused public toilet. In these close confines they confront many issues in their friendship, including a shocking discovery of betrayal.

Tinge Krishnan a travaillé comme médecin et a participé à un programme d'information sur la contraception auprès de prostituées en Thaïlande. Elle se consacre au cinéma depuis 1994 et a réalisé plusieurs courts métrages et documentaires.

Tinge Krishnan graduated with a BA in Medicine but left to pursue her love of film at NYU. Shortly after graduating from the NYU postgraduate scheme she, along with three other directors, was chosen to produce a three-minute piece shot in a day, "Random Nights," as part of the FilmFour Lab launch at Edinburgh Film Festival. She set up her own company Disruptive Element Films in 1995. Her first film, "Groove On A Stanley Knife," was partly funded by YMPA and won several awards.
