Maria Beatty is a New York filmmaker who directs, acts, and produces. Her work explores issues of female sexuality and lesbian life including BDSM and fetishism, and has been screened extensively both nationally and internationally. She was inspired by expressionist German cinema, by French surrealism and American film noir.

Combining poetic imagery with powerful readings, it evokes Allison's childhood in the poor white American South of the 1950's, her birth as a writer and feminist, and her coming to terms with a family legacy of incest and abuse. A beautifully realized portrait of an artist and survivor, this stirring film provides important insights into the roots of self-renewal and creativity.

Avant cela, Tina DiFeliciantonio produit et réalise Living with AIDS (1986) qui est distribué internationalement et remporte un Emmy Award (1988). De son côté, Jane C. Wagner est récompensée à Sundance en 1995 pour Tom's Flesh (1994). DiFeliciantonio and Wagner spent five years completing "Girls Like Us," which has been awarded the 1997 Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. These two award-winning documentarians have garnered individual as well as collective recognition. DiFeliciantonio produced and directed "Living with Aids," which was distributed internationally and won POV its first Emmy Award in 1988. Wagner, received the Special Recognition Award in short filmmaking at the 1995 Sundance Film Festival for "Tom's Flesh."

Dr. Michelle Mohabeer is a Toronto based, Guyana born Filmmaker/Video artist, teacher, film scholar and writer. Her films have received several international awards and honourable mentions and exhibited at over 150 festivals, conferences, and galleries across North America, Europe (Italy, UK, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Hungary, Poland and France), India, Australia, the Caribbean (Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad, Barbados), and Japan.

Originaire du Chili, diplômée de l'Université de Concordia, Claudia Morgado Escanilla vit à Vancouver, où elle travaille comme scénariste et assistante monteuse. Son film Angustia est également présenté cette année dans le cadre de la série de courts métrages intitulée Coming to Her Senses.

Vancouver filmmaker Claudia Morgado Escanilla was born in Santiago, Chile. She graduated from Montreal's Concordia University in 1991 with an award for outstanding achievement in the film program. Since then she has produced, written and directed eleven short films. Her films have been awarded in international film festivals including the Berlin Teddy in 1996 for her film "Unbound."

Diane Nerwen is a video artist and media arts educator. She has shown her work internationally, including screenings at the Berlin Film Festival, the Museum of Modern Art, NY, the Guggenheim Museum, NY, and the Tate Modern, London. Nerwen was born in Montreal and lives in Brooklyn, NY. Her experimental videotapes use collage and appropriation to explore the intersection of media, politics, and everyday life.
