The Best Of Mixed Archives

A Short History of the BOM:

Every year for the last five years, during Lesbian, Bi, Trans and Gay Pride, Cineffable has organised its Best Of Mixed (the BOM) open to a mixed public.
The BOM is not only a chance to see rare lesbian productions, or to see them again with male friends, it is also an act of visibility: while our autumn festival is reserved for women only, at the BOM, we open the doors to the general public.
In other respects however, the BOM emulates the main cineffable festival: all the films are sub-titled (in French), there are women film makers in attendance, we organise discussions...
The majority of lesbian films never get projected, owing largely to the reluctance of the distributers. It would be a shame to miss this opportunity to see some fine films.
A quick flash back
The BOM was created in 1997 by Cineffable, to present a retrospective of the best films from our october festival: Quand le lesbienne se font du cinéma.
L'Epée de bois " was the venue for the first two years. At the time, we couldn't use our current sub-titling system because of practical constraints and so we had to search out copies of lesbian films that already had French sub-titles or else find Frnehc films (something of a rarity).
In 1999, the MK2 chain of cinemas agreed to house the BOM based on the reuslts of the october festival. Having learned from our experience, we now offer a real selection of contemporary lesbian cinema.
And each year there are more of you to enjoy the films:
- In 1999 : at the MK2 Beaubourg, 843 tickets were sold
- In 2000 : 1017 tickets were sold (a confirmed success)
- In 2001 : at the MK2 Hautefeuille, more than 1400 tickets were sold!!!
In the space of 3 years the number of BOM spectators (who despite the mixed policy, are almost all women) has increased by 65 %, which promises great things for the future of the BOM.
