Pauline BEUGNIES

Pauline Beugnies (1982) is an author, award-winning photographer and filmmaker from Charleroi, Belgium. Pauline spent 5 years in Cairo, and speaks Arabic fluently. Now based in Brusells, she still has deep ties to Egypt. For 10 years, she documented Egyptian youth's emancipation in a range of different media: photo exhibits, a web documentary called Sout El Shabab (The Voice of Youth) in 2012, a photo book called Tahrir Generation in 2016 and Staying Alive, her first feature-length documentary. Pauline won the 2013 Nikon Press Photo Award for her Battir, the Green Intifada series. Her Staying Alive had its worldwide premiere at the Dok Festival in Leipzig, Germany, and won the 2017 SCAM Audiovisual Documentary Prize. Shams is her first work of fiction.
