Intimate Explorations
New perspectives on women's bodies
Opening Saturday 29 October at 7 p.m.

Beyond taboos, censorship, ideologies and scientific dogma, how much do we actually know about our own bodies, our own genitals, our own pleasure?

While last year we explored lesbian visibility in public, this year we are turning our gaze to the heart of that poorly known intimacy, following indirect paths bushwhacked by artists who are very different from each other, but are all equally irresistible.

With both humor and seriousness, their exceptional images offer surprising revelations about ourselves, born of unlikely artistic encounters involving vulvas, clitorises, dancing, ink, clay, latex and more.

For them, the most personal is political of course. It is also a place for the most crucial, free-wheeling and joyful artistic experiments.

Marie Docher

Marie Docher is a photographer, video-filmmaker and activist. In her series, Traversée and Punctum, she leads viewers on an existential photographic quest through matter, time and the body: "a body that keels over with the giddiness of euphoria and carefully weighs its return to life." That tension is also at the core of her video de Tango queer and reaches its dizzying climax in the documentary about a 3D printout of a clitoris.
